In Bormio, following the SS 300 towards S. Caterina Valfurva, you reach San Nicolò Valfurva where, following the large yellow signs indicating “Stelvio National Park” and “Rifugio 5 ° Alpini” and after turning left to Madonna dei Monti, you reach after a few kilometers the small village of Niblogo where you can park your car in the large car parking (you can also park in the parking below located at “Fantelle”). From here, on foot (path 29, white red), continue along the carriageway which entering the valley, first embedded then more and more open, goes through the Zebrù stream and slowly gains altitude through characteristic hollows of huts reaching the Campo Hut (2000 meters in about 2 hours).
Continuing, you arrive at the Shepherd’s House (2166 meters), from here the road continues with a series of bends that make you gain altitude and the view changes, widening in green meadows used to pasture, to get to the great and diverse morena of Rio Marè Valley. The dirt road goes on to become a comfortable and wide trail leading to the hut, well visible on the rocky cliff at the foot of Mount Zebrù with the imposing peak (Hochjochgrat) of the Ortles in the background.
VARIANT: It is also possible to reach the Hut through the Cedec valley; Leaving the car at the parking of Forni Hut above S. Caterina, follow the signs for the Pizzini-Frattola hut and then for the Zebrù Pass. From here you go down to the stream and to the sign of the detour that to the left leads down to the valley (at the Shepherd’s House in Zebrù valley) and to the right leads on a comfortable path to Quinto Alpini Hut.
